UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR VISTS KOKOO PA DEMONSTRATION SITE AT MANKRANSO

The United Nations Resident Coordinator in Ghana, Mr. Zia Choudhury, has paid a visit to Kokoo Pa greenhouse demonstration site at Mankranso in the Ashanti Region as part of his working visit of farming communities supported under the Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) project.

Kokoo Pa Cooperative Farmers Union, a proud member of the Ghana Federation of Forest and Farm Producers (GhaFFaP), had the honor of hosting the UN Resident Coordinator and his team at the greenhouse demonstration site during this important visit.

The greenhouse, which belongs to Kokoo Pa Cooperative Farmers Union, serves as a demonstration site where farmers are trained on sustainable agricultural practices. As part of the project, Kokoo Pa Technical Officer; Mr. David Kenneth Adziwoe trained farmers on the use of organic fertilizer and the production of vegetables for both consumption and commercial purposes. Supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) through FFF project funding, the facility is equipped with a modern greenhouse, irrigation system, solar panel, and security system to ensure sustainable production.

Currently, farmers are cultivating vegetables including carrot, cucumber, pepper, tomatoes, and lettuce. The first batch of these vegetables have been harvested successfully. The UN Resident Coordinator expressed his happiness at seeing the progress of the project and commended Kokoo Pa for its commitment to empowering rural farmers through innovation. He noted that such initiatives align with global efforts to promote climate resilience, decent livelihoods, and sustainable food systems. He tasted some of the freshly harvested lettuce, commending the farmers for their hard work and dedication.

The visit highlighted the strong partnership between Kooko Pa and its development partners in promoting climate-smart agriculture, and the impact of the FFF project in empowering farmers with skills, resources, and opportunities to improve their livelihoods while contributing to sustainable agriculture in Ghana.
